Position Summary
The Colour Matching Specialist is responsible for formulating, adjusting, and ensuring the accuracy of paint colours to meet production quality standards. This role requires strong colour perception, technical knowledge of pigments and paint formulation, and proficiency with both visual and instrumental colour matching methods. The specialist will work closely with R&D, Quality Control, and Production teams to ensure consistent and repeatable results from laboratory samples to large-scale manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
Colour Development & Matching
- Match, develop, and adjust paint colours according to approved specifications.
- Select appropriate pigments, binders, and additives for desired performance and appearance.
- Operate colour matching software and spectrophotometer equipment to achieve precise colour targets.
- Conduct trials to ensure accurate scale-up from lab batch to production quantities.
Quality Control & Assurance
- Inspect and verify colour consistency throughout the production process.
- Test paint samples under various light sources to detect metamerism.
- Ensure colours meet internal standards for gloss, opacity, and durability.
- Document all formulations, adjustments, and approvals for traceability.
Process & Production Support
- Provide technical guidance to production teams on pigment handling and colour reproduction.
- Troubleshoot and resolve colour variance issues during production runs.
- Maintain calibration and operational readiness of colour measurement equipment.
Continuous Improvement
- Research and evaluate new pigments, raw materials, and colour matching technologies.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance accuracy, reduce waste, and improve efficiency.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in coatings technology.
Qualifications & Skills
- Certificate/Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in colour matching within the paint, coatings, or related manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of colour theory, pigments, and paint formulation.
- Proficiency in spectrophotometer use and colour matching software.
- Excellent visual colour perception and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
